part of the St. Maarten Regatta

Join this championship and showcase the racing talent in the Caribbean, during the 43rd St. Maarten Regatta.


On 2 – 5 March 2023 the Sint Maarten Yacht Club will organize the Next Generation Championship.
This is a separate class racing in Sunfast 20’s during the St. Maarten Regatta.


A team must consist of 3 sailors, aged from 12 – 18 who will sail the boat.
To ensure the safety onboard, every team must have a coach on the boat over the age of 21. The coach will not be allowed to captain the boat.

Tentative Schedule

-          Thursday morning:        Registration, boat allocation, practicing.

-          Thursday afternoon:     Practice race

-          Friday:                              Racing + Daily prize giving

-          Saturday:                          Racing + Daily prize giving

-          Sunday Morning:            Racing

-          Sunday Afternoon:         Final prize giving



Racing will consist of a mix between windward-leeward and longer courses in the Simpson Bay lagoon. On the last day of the regatta, the fleet will join Start boat B of the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta and race in the waters around Simpson Bay.

We have capacity for 6 teams to enter.

The Sunfast 20 is a keelboat with a mainsail and a jib. General positions in the boat are:

- Captain
- Mainsail trimmer
- Jib Trimmer
- Coach

Costs to participate

Entrance fee (which includes boat rental) will be $100 per day. $400 total per team.

Teams will have to pay for accommodation and transport. The organization is trying to arrange sponsorships to reduce the entrance fee.
