The 17th La Course de L’Alliance is taking place December 5 – 6, 2020 as a two-day race event. Originally this three-day race takes sailors from Simpson Bay to St. Barths, Anguilla and back to Simpson Bay in St. Maarten, however for 2020 an adjusted format was necessary due to current inter-island travel restrictions. Organizers looked at creative alternatives and decided to include an overnight stop at Oyster Pond at the Oyster Bay Beach Resort. Despite the changes and overall challenges, sponsors are supportive of the event including new sponsor FKG Marine Rigging.
This much beloved race is a highlight of the season each year. “We are looking forward to this weekend, as it is one of the most popular regattas in St Maarten. Besides the route we take is the camaraderie one of the most important aspect of this regatta. Unfortunately, we can’t go to St. Barths or Anguilla this year and we had to make a decision about an alternative route. We think the stopover in Oyster Pond is a great option for this year’s edition.” Says Ryan Hope-Ross from the Steering Committee.
Registration will be at the Sint Maarten Yacht Club on Friday December 4 from 4pm – 6pm. Participants will receive special Course de L’Alliance T-shirts which will be handed out during the registration followed by a skippers briefing at 6pm that covers the basics.
Racing will start on Saturday in Simpson Bay. The day will have two races starting in Simpson Bay. The 2nd race will end in Oyster pond. Sunday the race will go from Oyster Pond back to Simpson Bay.
Oyster Bay Beach Resort is offering a beautiful “Staycation” package for the sailors and their families. This allows the teams to still have an overnight getaway that the original concept offered.
Prize Giving on Saturday will be held at the Oyster Pond Resort and the final Prize Giving on Sunday at the Sint Maarten Yacht Club.
