Grant Thornton Multi Class Regatta to kick off this upcoming weekend.

April 7, 2021 – Simpson Bay, Sint Maarten - The Sint Maarten Yacht Club is hosting the Grant Thornton Multi Class Regatta this upcoming weekend April 10 - 11. This 2-day event welcomes sailors in the following 5 classes: Optimist, Laser Pico, Lasers, RS Quests and Sunfast 20s. So far 24 entries have been received, which is likely to grow to 40 in the next couple of days. Besides the dedicated sailors from the Sint Maarten Yacht Club and the Sint Maarten Yacht Club Sailing School entries have been received from the Friar’s Bay Sailing Club and St. Barts Yacht Club, promising excellent competition on the water.

The Multi Class Regatta has been a popular event among all age groups and has shown great participation numbers in the past. Grant Thornton will enter its second year of sponsorship of this event and is looking forward to the Event. Also a sponsor of the Yacht Club’s Dinghy Championships and Keelboat Series, they are a valued partner of the Sint Maarten Yacht Club and keen to help further grow the sailing program.

The racing will take place in Simpson Bay as weather conditions seem favorable. Spectators will be able to watch the sailing from Simpson Bay beach. On Saturday lunch is served picnic style on Kim Sha beach with sandwiches provided by Zeebest Bakery. After racing sailors, spectators and supporters are asked to support the raffle that will take place from 5pm – 7pm that evening. All proceeds support the youth sailing program and there is the chance to win one (or more) of the hundreds of amazing prizes donated by local businesses. Raffle tickets can be bought on the spot before 5pm or prior at the Sint Maarten Yacht Club in the days leading up to the event.
