On December 4 and 5 the SMYC is hosting the 18th annual La Course de L’Alliance to Oyster Pond.

The 18th La Course de L’Alliance is taking place December 4 – 5, 2021 and continuing as a two-day race event. Originally this three-day race takes sailors from Simpson Bay to St. Barths, Anguilla and back to Simpson Bay in St. Maarten. Unfortunately, the travel restrictions are not allowing the organization to run the regatta in this format.

After a successful event in 2020 from Simpson Bay to Oyster Pond, the SMYC, together with her sponsor FKG Marine Rigging, are excited to announce a similar set up for the 2021 edition.

Registration will be at the Sint Maarten Yacht Club on Friday December 3 from 4pm – 6pm. Participants will receive special Course de L’Alliance T-shirts which will be handed out during the registration followed by a skippers briefing at 6pm that covers the basics.

“After a great edition to Oyster Pond last year and a lot of positive responses about this set up we are looking forward to this years edition. Oyster Bay Beach Resort is offering a beautiful “Staycation” package for the sailors and their families. This set up makes it possible for the family members to join in on this great event, watch the finish on the pool deck of Oyster Bay Beach Resort and enjoy happy hour and this years grill buffet together”. Says Petro Jonker from the Sailing Committee.

Last years edition was won by Team Island Water World with their Melges 24. This years racing promises to be high class again in an expected battle between the four Melges 24’s competing against their bigger sister; the Melges 32 Kick em Jenny. The organization is pleased to see Dauntless back on the registration list as they know that Don Terwilliger is motivated to push his Beneteau First 47.7 as fast as he can. With two multihulls registered already the Race Committee is hoping for a well-represented multihull class.

Prize Giving on Saturday will be held at the Oyster Pond Resort and the final Prize Giving on Sunday at the Sint Maarten Yacht Club.

Organizers are grateful for the continues support from our sponsors FKG Marine Rigging, Divico, Oyster Bay Beach Resort, Oyster Bay Marina, T-Max and Eagle Tours.
