Sint Maarten Youth Sailing in the 42nd St. Maarten Heineken Regatta (Part 4/4)

Sailors from the Sint Maarten Yacht Club Sailing School Participated in the Heineken Regatta in 4 different teams. We have asked them all to share their experience.

In this last article Dax Henriques is sharing his experience.

Dax was sailing on a beautiful local Sint Maarten Boat; 'L'Esperance'. His Dad was part of the team as well. His position on board was the bow and it was his responsibility to skirt the jib after a tack of a gybe.

His favorite race was the first day of the regatta, the race to Saint Barths. "Everything was working well and we ended up in first place. I was the youngest person on board but I had a lot of fun. The weather was challenging, there was a lot of wind and especially when the squall came through it was very cold and windy" Said Dax.

There is a very special story about the boat L'Esperance. The boat was destroyed during hurricane Irma back in 2017, and ever since there has been monuments efforts made to restore the boat. This years St. Maarten Heineken Regatta was the first race since the rebuild has been finalized.
