Sint Maarten Yacht Club joins the Steering the Course Women's Sailing Festival by offering free sail

Updated: May 25, 2021

On Sunday May 30th the Sint Maarten Yacht Club is welcoming all women to sailing as part of the Steering the Course Women's Sailing Festival. This free event is open to women of all ages and no sailing experience is required. Volunteers and sailing instructors are available to take women for sailing try-outs, or those with sailing experience can go on a quick sail through Simpson Bay with a friend or family member. In addition, a Rose Rally will be held, which is a relay race combining watersports, sailing and a bottle of rosé for the winning team at the finish!

Steering the Course is an international initiative by World Sailing that aims to introduce women and girls across the globe to the sport of sailing, as well as encourage alternative pathways for those already within the sport, such as coaching or officiating. Held over a 10-day period the festival will bring together sailing communities from all backgrounds, with events taking place in multiple countries at the same time. The Caribbean Sailing Association (CSA) has asked all its members to have the event on Sunday May 30th to show a regional effort to promote women in sailing and increase the impact and exposure.

The Sint Maarten Yacht Club is grateful for the support it is receiving by a number of local businesses who sponsor the Event. The Scuba Shop will provide shade with Neso tents and samples of Sun Bum sunscreen are available to keep everyone protected from the sun. Divico will be providing water, snacks, Heineken 0.0 and samples of their new brand Strongbow Cider. Caribbean Liquors and Tobacco also joined by providing rosé as the prizes for the Rose Rally.

The event is taking place at Kim Sha Beach this upcoming Sunday between 1pm – 4pm. Women are asked to sign up in advance which can be done at All activities are free of charge.
