11 sailors from the Sint Maarten Yacht Club travelled aboard the Great Bay express to St. Barths on June 19th 2021, to participate in a sailing race organized by the Saint Barth Yacht Club.
Justin Pieterse, Kai Henriques and Frits Bus sailed a laser and the rest teamed up in RS Feva’s to achieve the best possible results.
Jordan Pieterse and Emma Lennox did a great job by finishing 3rd. Chris de Wilde and Arhan Baharani became 5th, Melina de Vries and Veronica Destin became 8th and Dax Henriques and Frasener Faustin became 9th. Frits Bus became 2nd in the Laser Class, right behind his rival and friend Bernoit Meesemaecker from St. Barths.
The wind conditions were great, the sun was out and it was a great experience for all the sailors to compete in a sailing race off island.
“We boarded the Great Bay ferry at 7.30 in the morning to have some practice time in the morning and let the sailors get comfortable with their boats. The race started in the afternoon and I was very proud of all the sailors to see the progress that they made in a short period of time. For a lot of the sailors, it was a long time ago since they were off island, so it was a great adventure.” Said Saskia Revelman, racing coach from team SXM, that accompanied the sailors to St Barths.
We are thanking Great Bay Express and the St. Barths Yacht Club for organizing this possibility and we are looking forward to repeating this in the near future.
