Why join the sponsorship program?
The Sint Maarten Yacht Club was established in 1980 with the goal to promote sailing and watersports in and around the island of St Maarten. It organizes multiple sailing events throughout the year, with the crown jewel being the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta.
The club’s Youth Sailing Program stimulates local youngsters to become part of the sailing community, teaching them life skills such as team work, perseverance and confidence.
Through its active event calendar, the club and its members are engaged in many community involvement activities.
Always looking to further develop sailing on St Maarten, the club is actively promoting the sport, as well as the beautiful destination in which it is located.
The Sailing School plays a major role in educating the next generation of sailors. Its Youth Sailing Program currently trains 75 students per season, a number that grew back to the current size after the challenging times after Irma and Covid-19.
Many members have joined the club to support the Youth Sailing Program and funds are raised through membership fees, events and fundraisers organized by members. To strengthen the Program, sponsors contribute in a number of ways which allows the SMYC to further develop and expand the Program on the island.
The reach of the SMYC is extensive and includes a broad target market, including locals, expats, regular visitors from North America & Europe, parents, sailors, local, regional and international media and of course this is not limited to members only. The SMYC connects sponsors to its audience and offers many exposure opportunities and activations that benefit your business and brands.
Most importantly, by supporting our club and Youth Sailing Program, you will allow us to introduce more local youngsters to sailing, offering them a fun and active way to develop themselves and broaden their horizon.

sponsor a student – $ 800 per year per student
Students that have been introduced to the sailing program through the Primary School Program or the Summer Camp through a sponsorship, often want to continue sailing in the after-school sailing program.
When financial means are not available the SMYC looks for sponsors. This can be an individual or a business. Your financial contribution helps us cover the costs of the sailing classes.
Sponsors can also suggest potential candidates as the personal involvement contributes greatly to the overall success of the student. This is based on availability of a space in the program.
The sponsor will receive updates about the students progress twice a year.
Primary school Sailing program
Support our Primary School Sailing Program in where currently 48 students are enjoying free weekly sailing classes during school hours.
Gold Package – $ 6000
This allows 1 group of 12 students to sail for 1 full school year.
Guaranteed Exposure plus Additional exposure:
- The name of your company on 1 Optimist hull and 1 RS Zest Sail for 1 year.
- The company logo on t-shirts for 12 students.
- Mention in a minimum of 3 press releases.
- A minimum of 4 mentions on Social Media with pictures of the project.
- The company logo on SMYC Website Primary School Sailing Program Page.
Silver Package – $ 3000
This allows 6 students to sail for 1 full school year.
Guaranteed Exposure plus Additional exposure:
- The name of your company on 1 Optimist Hull or RS Zest Sail for 1 year.
- Company logo on t-shirts for 6 students.
- Mention in a minimum of 3 press releases
- A minimum of 2 mentions on Social Media with pictures of the project.

Bronze Package – $1000
This contributes towards starting a group in the primary school sailing program.

Sponsor our racing team
A motivated group of 6 Optimist Sailors and 6 ILCA (Laser) Sailors are forming the SMYC – Racing Team.
They train more and visit local, national and international events.
Gold package – $ 5000
Guaranteed Exposure plus Additional exposure:
- Title sponsor of the SMYC Racing team for 1 year.
- Your logo on the team’s uniform.
- Your logo on 1 Racing Optimist and 1 Racing Laser for 2 years.

Sponsor our Sailability program
In the Sailing world Sailability programs are often seen. Even when you have a physical or mental disability, sports are still so important, as daytime activity but also to build self-confidence and focus, each student on their own level and based on individual capabilities.
The SMYC is collaborating with the White and Yellow Cross Care Foundation, 4 selected students, challenged with a mental or physical disability, from their day-activity program will join these special sailing classes twice a week, starting in August 2023.
